The County Attorney's Office is responsible for prosecuting both misdemeanor and felony crime which occurs within Anaconda-Deer Lodge County. We assist law enforcement with search warrants and investigative subpoenas. We work with adult and juvenile probation and parole, file petitions when appropriate and revoke prior sentences when a violation has occurred. We are responsible for filing all cases of abuse and neglect and act as counsel for the Department of Public Health and Human Services, Family Services Division. In addition we are counsel to Adult Protective Services. We also handle all Petitions For Involuntary Commitment. The County Attorney acts as legal advisor to various boards, departments, the Chief Executive and Commission. We cannot represent individual citizens or employees and must only consider the civil liability issues of the county government itself.

The elected County Attorney, Joan S. Borneman, has served ADLC for 14.5 years and is a native of Anaconda and a graduate for the University of Montana, School of Law. Prior to pursuing a law degree, Ms. Borneman was a school teacher, a Head Start Director, and the Administrator for Troops On Foreign Soil, Girl Scout National Headquarters in New York, New York.
